Who would have thought, out of many dried fruits, walnut would be that fruit of choice, that reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases? A new study has discovered that people who consume walnuts daily have better heart health and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease than those who do not.

An ounce of walnut a day is enough to provide you omega-3 fatty acids (highest among all the other nuts), antioxidants, healthy fats, protein, and fibers making it an essential component of a healthy diet.

The study examined the heart profile of both walnut eaters and non-walnut eaters. The following were observed in walnut eaters, specifically:

A previous study also found out how consumption of walnuts impacted the gut microbiota, which is indirectly linked to an improved cardiovascular health. A healthy gut microbiome reduces inflammation levels, improves lipid profile, decreases the risk of metabolic disease, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
