Psycobiotic Diet

The saying “you are what you eat” is one that we have all heard. The food a person chooses to eat can have a significant impact on their general health.

But it’s only recently that the importance of probiotics and fermented foods were recognized. Even a recent study says, adopting a diet rich in probiotics and fermented foods can help reduce a person’s perceived stress levels and enhance their quality of sleep.

The Psycobiotic Diet

For this study, participants consumed fermented foods and foods high in prebiotics. This diet is known as psychobiotic.

The diet includes the following.

  • 6-8 servings per day of foods rich in prebiotic fibers, such as oats, onions, leeks, cabbage, apples, and bananas.
  • 5-8 servings o grains.
  • 2-3 servings of fermented old like kimchi or Kombucha.
  • 3-4 servings of legumes. 

How does Psycobiotic Diet affect stress?

Researchers discovered that those following the psychobiotic diet experienced a reduction in their perceived stress. Additionally, researchers discovered that adherence to the psychobiotic diet was associated with a reduction in stress levels. 

Researchers also discovered that the psychobiotic diet increased the quality of sleep in control groups.
